Tips For Selecting A Laser Machine Chiller
Sep 04, 2026| Choosing the right chiller for a laser machine is mainly about matching cooling capacity, temperature control, flow rate, and laser type. An undersized chiller can cause overheating and unstable laser output; an oversized or poorly matched system can waste energy and create unnecessary costs.
1. Identify the laser type
Different lasers have different cooling requirements:
| Laser type | Typical cooling needs |
|---|---|
| CO₂ laser | Usually water-cooled; moderate-to-high heat load |
| Fiber laser | Often requires precise cooling of the laser source and sometimes the cutting head |
| UV laser | Typically needs tighter temperature stability |
| Nd:YAG / solid-state | Frequently requires high-precision temperature control |
| High-power industrial laser | High cooling capacity and reliable continuous operation |
1. Cooling Capacity
Calculate the total heat generation of your laser machine (fiber laser, CO₂ laser, UV laser, etc.). The chiller cooling capacity must be higher than the heat load of the laser. Higher power lasers need larger cooling capacity.
2. Temperature Control Precision
- Fiber laser: ±0.5℃ or ±0.1℃ high precision temperature control is usually required.
- CO₂ laser: ±1℃ temperature accuracy is enough for most scenarios.
High precision keeps laser power consistent during long-time cutting/welding.
3. Coolant & Refrigerant Compatibility
Confirm the chiller uses proper circulating water. For export orders, check the refrigerant (R134a / R1234yf) meets the destination country environmental regulations, such as EU F-Gas rules.
4. Voltage & Frequency
Match local power supply: 220V/380V, 50Hz or 60Hz for overseas customers. Wrong power parameter will make the chiller unable to work.
5. Size & Installation Condition
Check available space, ventilation environment. For container shipment, confirm the dimension and weight for container loading.
6. Protection Functions
Essential alarms: water flow alarm, over-temperature alarm, low water level protection. These functions prevent laser damage when abnormal occurs.
7. After-sales & Compliance Documents
Confirm the supplier can provide CE certificate, MSDS, operation manual and after-sales video. For export, prepare transport identification report for refrigerant.
