Laser Chiller Coolant vs Tap Water: How to Choose the Right Fluid

Many users wonder whether ordinary water can be used as cooling fluid for laser chillers.

✅ Deionized / Distilled Water (Pure Water)
It is the basic option for laser chillers. It has low conductivity, prevents scaling and mineral deposits inside the laser tube, fiber optic head and heat exchanger.

Note: Tap water is NOT recommended. Tap water contains calcium, magnesium, impurities. It will cause limescale, clog pipelines, corrode components and damage laser sources.

✅ Special Laser Chiller Coolant (Antifreeze Liquid)
It is a mixture of deionized water + antifreeze & corrosion inhibitor.

- Suitable for low-temperature environments, prevents freezing and cracking of chiller pipes in winter
- Anti-rust, anti-algae, protects the whole cooling system
- Widely used for fiber laser, UV laser, high-power laser equipment

💡 Core Suggestion:

1. Normal room temperature environment: use distilled / deionized water
2. Ambient temperature below 5℃: add dedicated laser chiller coolant (antifreeze)
3. Never use tap water, mineral water, river water directly.
