Industrial Chiller Antifreeze Selection Core Guide
Dec 02, 2025| When choosing antifreeze for industrial chillers, the key is to balance antifreeze performance, equipment compatibility, and system safety. Specifically, three points need attention:
Matching the minimum operating temperature: The freezing point of the antifreeze should be 5-10°C lower than the lowest temperature of the chiller's operating environment (e.g., if the minimum ambient temperature is -15°C, choose a product with a freezing point of -25°C) to prevent the solution from freezing and expanding, damaging the pipes.
Prioritizing industrial-grade types:
- Commonly used types are ethylene glycol-based antifreeze (high cost-performance ratio, suitable for environments above -40°C) and propylene glycol-based antifreeze (non-toxic, low corrosiveness, suitable for the food/pharmaceutical industry);
- Avoid using automotive antifreeze, as its additives may corrode industrial-grade metal components (such as copper and steel).
Checking key indicators: Confirm the product's corrosion inhibitor content and pH value (recommended 7.5-10, slightly alkaline) to prevent long-term use from causing rust or scaling on the inner walls of the pipes.
