How Industrial Chiller Works

Oct 08, 2026|

An industrial chiller works based on the vapor compression refrigeration cycle. It does not "create cold", but transfers heat from process water to the outside air through refrigerant.

There are four core stages in the refrigeration cycle:

1. Compression
The compressor takes low-pressure, low-temperature gaseous refrigerant and compresses it into high-pressure, high-temperature gas. This step adds energy to the refrigerant.
2. Condensation
Hot high-pressure refrigerant flows into the condenser. It releases heat to ambient air, and the refrigerant cools down and turns into high-pressure liquid.
3. Throttling (Expansion)
Liquid refrigerant passes through the expansion valve. Pressure drops sharply, and the refrigerant becomes low-pressure, low-temperature gas-liquid mixture.
4. Evaporation
Inside the evaporator, the cold refrigerant absorbs heat from circulating water. The water is chilled and sent to cool your industrial equipment. The refrigerant absorbs heat and vaporizes back into gas, then returns to the compressor to restart the cycle.

The chilled water circulates between the chiller and your machines (laser, welding machine, mold). After absorbing heat from equipment, the warm water flows back to the chiller for re-cooling.

Key Advantages

• Stable and precise temperature control
• Continuous heat removal for 24h production
• Protect expensive industrial equipment from overheating damage

Most laser chillers are air-cooled type, simple to install and maintain.
