Measures to improve the efficiency of chiller systems

Mar 28, 2023|

The consumption of chillers has become a large component of today's factory utility bills. So what should I do to make chillers more energy efficient? Pesh offers some possibilities here.

Chiller Type:

When the refrigerant changes from vapor to liquid, two different cooling media (air or water) can facilitate the transfer of latent heat released. Therefore, the chiller can use two different types of condensers, air-cooled and water-cooled.

An air-cooled condenser is similar to a "radiator" that cools a car engine. They use electric blowers to force air through the refrigerant line grid. Unless they are specifically designed for high ambient conditions, air-cooled condensers require an ambient temperature of 95°F (35°C) or lower to operate effectively.

Water-cooled condensers function the same as air-cooled condensers, but require two steps to complete heat transfer. First, the heat is transferred from the refrigerant vapor to the condenser water. The warm condenser water is then pumped to the cooling tower, where the process heat is eventually discharged into the atmosphere.
